The U.S. Navy has indicated its intent to award Northrop Grumman’s defense systems business a sole-source contract to commence low-rate initial production of the AGM-88G Advanced Anti-Radiation Guided Missile–Extended Range variant.

The proposed firm-fixed-price contract will cover the fabrication, assembly, evaluation and delivery of lots 1 and 2 AARGM-ER all-up rounds, Naval Air Systems Command said Wednesday in a presolicitation notice.

Northrop could also provide AGM-88G Captive Air Training Missiles, support equipment, special test equipment and spares to the service branch, plus program management, quality assurance, configuration management and logistics support.

NAVAIR awarded the company a $322.5M engineering and manufacturing development contract in March 2019 to design integrate and test a solid rocket motor for the new missile variant to be used on the branch's F/A-18E/F, EA-18G and F-35A/C aircraft platforms.

The NDGS business is the only source that could address program requirements. according to the notice.
