Woolpert will open a research hub in Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, for unmanned aircraft systems and other aviation technology and expects to recruit additional employees to work at the facility.
The company said Friday its space in the National Aviation Research and Technology Park will also support the firm's urban air mobility team and is close to a Federal Aviation Administration-operated technical center that helps sustain the National Airspace System.
“From a collaboration perspective, the park has created a think tank-like atmosphere that is helping propel aviation research and technology projects worldwide," said Thomas Mackie, a Woolpert vice president.
Five employees were initially hired for full-time positions at the firm's new research hub.
Woolpert received contracts earlier this year to create guidebooks for the Transportation Research Board and the National Safe Skies Alliance.
