Raytheon Technologies’ Teresa Shea: Government-Industry Collaboration Could Help Protect Defense Industrial Base

Teresa Shea, vice president of cyber offensive and defensive experts at Raytheon Technologies, wrote in an opinion piece published Wednesday on C4ISRNET that the government and industry should collaborate to protect the defense industrial base from cyber threat actors and strengthen the country’s cyber resiliency.

Shea discussed the importance of threat intelligence data sharing between companies and government agencies and how the Defense Industrial Base Cybersecurity Program helps promote situational awareness to keep ahead of threat actors.

“It is no longer acceptable to rely on incident response protocols, performance assessments of existing systems and one-off reactions to threats without coordination,” Shea wrote. “Increased information sharing is key to staying one step ahead of our adversaries.”

Organizations should follow the cybersecurity guidelines issued by the U.S. government. Shea noted that a Cyberspace Solarium Commission report recommended that Congress direct companies to hunt for threats on their network infrastructure and share threat information with the Department of Defense to ensure network security and protect intellectual property.
