Leidos has named Mary Nicole Lyons, a student at New York University's Tandon School of Engineering, as the fifth recipient of the company's annual scholarship that supports education in the science, technology, engineering and math fields.
Lyons has maintained a grade point average of 3.90 in her chemical and biochemical engineering subjects and underwent a competitive process to become a STEM scholar, the company said Monday.
"This high-profile scholarship program helps identify and nurture young technical talent and demonstrates our commitment to helping build the workforce of the future," said Gerry Fasano, president of Leidos' defense group and a 2020 Wash100 winner.
The award is part of the Surface Navy's Anchor Scholarship program that assists eligible relatives of current and former surface force members.
A committee selects the awardees based on their academic performance, financial needs, extracurricular activities and character.
