Tenable’s Chris Jensen: Agencies Need Basic Cyber Risk Mgmt for Telework Settings

Chris Jensen, federal business development and capture manager at Tenable, has said that agencies should implement teamwork- and risk-based approaches in their efforts to fortify cybersecurity amidst telework setups.

Jensen wrote in a blog post published Tuesday that agencies must implement a “whole of state” mindset and establish an overarching security approach similar to the Continuous Diagnostics and Mitigation program to meet agency-specific goals.

He noted that a team-based perspective that also includes industry and the academe is needed to establish a collective defense capacity and expand federal cybersecurity resources.

A risk-based vulnerability management strategy can additionally provide “immediate and significant benefits” such as more efficient collaboration between cyber and non-cyber leaders, said Jensen.

He cited the importance of foundational cyber hygiene procedures like software patching and predictive prioritizing, which revolves around establishing key vulnerabilities that must be immediately addressed in line with recognized databases.

According to Jensen, the CDM initiative builds on Tenable’s Agency-Wide Adaptive Risk Enumeration algorithm which measures and quantifies agencies’ cyber risk posture to help leaders visualize their cybersecurity strategy.

Tenable also offers a risk management tool intended to enable organizations to assess their efforts to address system vulnerabilities, he added.
