The U.S. Air Force seeks to award $76.4M in contracts for aircraft systems that could replace the service branch’s E-4B Doomsday aircraft, Breaking Defense reported Friday.
The Department of Defense has devised a concept that will unify the E-4B and E-6B aircraft units into the Survivable Airborne Operations Center.
In line with the idea, the service branch is looking for a commercial aircraft that will house an updated communications subsystem, mission tools, a network suite and command and control subsystems.
An industry event was held from Feb. 12 through 13 to discuss details in line with the planned contracts.
USAF plans to complete all necessary documents to post a request for proposals and start work on the planned two-phase project. Up to two contracts may be awarded for the project’s first phase.
