A new LexisNexis Risk Solutions survey has found that 66 percent of law enforcement leaders said they prefer to share data with agencies nationwide and 34 percent said they intend to share information with their region only.

LexisNexis Risk Solutions said Monday the respondents cited information technology resources, budget and cooperation among local agencies as obstacles to data sharing efforts.

“These survey results pull back the veil on what occurs behind the scenes, and can help inform the resources we arm them with to ease the administrative burdens around data sharing needs and enable them to focus on their top priority,” said Haywood Talcove, CEO, Government, LexisNexis Risk Solutions and LexisNexis Special Services.

Opioids, property crime and gang activity are the top three challenges facing law enforcement agencies.

Sixty-three percent of respondents said personnel management, which includes recruiting, training and staffing, is one of the tasks that take up most of their time, followed by managing community relationships at 50 percent and investigations at 37 percent.

The company conducted the survey before and during the International Association of Chiefs of Police Annual 2019 Conference.
