Federal Agencies Use AWS Cloud to Support Research Collaboration, Track Apps

Officials from three federal agencies have shared how their organizations leverage Amazon Web Services cloud to advance information technology modernization and support their missions.

David Catanoso, director of enterprise cloud solutions office at the Department of Veterans Affairs, explained how VA uses cloud to protect data and gain visibility into the performance of its internal applications, according to a blog post published Tuesday.

“We use Amazon reporting to help track applications usage and cost data for our shared services,” Catanoso said. “Now we’ve also deployed the VA Active Directory as a service into the AWS GovCloud (US).”

Joseph Foster, cloud computing program manager at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center, discussed how the space agency uses cloud to facilitate research collaboration.

Nitin Naik, chief technology officer at the Census Bureau, cited how AWS cloud helps the agency mitigate respondent burden and address data silos.
