CMS Looks at Small Businesses for Health Care Admin Work

The Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services seeks small businesses that are able to provide benefit and claims services across various states, Bloomberg Government reported Wednesday.

Selected small businesses may win from a pool potentially valued over $100 million. Large companies such as Anthem and Blue Cross Blue Shield currently perform the sought work, and CMS intends to open opportunities to small businesses.

The agency seeks to determine the ability of veteran-owned, women-owned, HUBZone and disadvantaged small businesses to administer health benefits and collaborate with care providers.

Winning contractors will manage hospital insurance, health care services and medical equipment. Awarded contracts may entail up to 10 years of work. Interested small businesses may submit proposals through Oct. 15.
