Boeing has been honored with an award that recognizes the company’s design work on the T-7A trainer aircraft, also known as the T-X.

The company said Thursday it received the Aviation Week Network’s Game Changer Award in recognition of the aircraft’s model-based engineering.

Boeing used this model-based approach to develop the aircraft's concept to a flying unit in 36 months.

“We looked to use T-7 as a way to change the way aircraft are designed and developed so that we can bring safe, mission-ready systems to our customers more quickly and affordably than in the past,” said Paul Niewald, senior director and T-7 chief engineer at Boeing.

The firm received the honor at Aviation Week’s Program Excellence Awards, an annual event that recognizes technological achievements in the aerospace industry.

The award was presented during Aviation Week’s annual Program Excellence Awards, an industry event that honors advancements in aerospace technology.

Boeing worked with Swedish company Saab to develop T-7A.
