The National Institute of Standards and Technology has granted almost $4M in awards to help 19 small businesses pursue technology projects.
These projects support Phases I and II of NIST’s Small Business Innovation Research program, the agency said Friday. Awardees come from 12 states, including California, Maryland, Michigan, Wisconsin and Texas.
Grant recipients will receive up to $100K for commercial feasibility research under the SBIR program’s first phase. Participants that advance to the second phase will compete for a maximum of $400K in funds for continued development.
NIST will use non-SBIR funds to finance and commercialize projects under the program’s third phase.
Projects cover a variety of technology topics such as silicon nanowire sensors, fiber optics, cloud security guidance, nanoparticles and laser particle separation.
