George Kamis, chief technology officer for global governments and critical infrastructure at Forcepoint, has said that agencies should avoid relying on cloud providers to protect crucial data as it migrates to a hybrid cloud architecture.
Agencies must “proactively take measures†to secure information by strengthening in-flight data visibility and using behavioral analysis to secure high-risk information, Kamis wrote in a GCN piece.
Inline proxy analysis, he noted, can help information technology teams monitor activity from the end-user level and perform real-time blocking as needed. In addition, behavioral analysis-based risk level classification can be used to prevent hackers who target high-risk personnel with access to sensitive data.
“The beauty of this approach is that it targets individuals, not the entire agency,†Kamis said. “Everyone can continue with their normal routines without being locked out of the applications and information needed to perform their jobs.â€
He added that such efforts to increase the visibility of user behavior patterns will enable agencies to “create more effective, sound and targeted security policies while also getting control over their data, wherever it may be.â€
