Collins Aerospace, a United Technologies Corp. business, has secured its sixth order for software-defined ground radios in support of the U.S. Army.

According to Collins Aerospace press release published Tuesday, the PRC-162 radios support the service branch’s Handheld, Manpack and Small Form Factor multiple-award program valued at $12.7B, Collins

The Collins-made ground radio operates on two channels and accommodates man-carried and vehicle-mounted configurations. In addition, the open-architecture radio is designed to provide soldiers access to newer communications systems and still maintain compatibility with older waveforms.

Collins offers the radio as part of the TruNet family of networked communications products.

The Army selected Collins, General Dynamics and L3Harris to compete for orders under the potential 10-year contract.
