Lockheed Martin has helped the Missile Defense Agency update a communications, command, control and battle management platform for the MDA's ballistic missile defense system.
The modernized C2BMC includes an "engage on remote" feature for the Aegis weapon system to counter missile threats through the use of sensor and tracking information, Lockheed said Tuesday.
The company demonstrated the approach in late 2018 during an MDA-hosted flight test. Aegis used sensor data from the C2 platform and intercepted its target.
"Engage on remote provides an additional layer of defense by providing more time to react to threats," said Steve Froelich, director of Lockheed's missile defense solutions business.
MDA's C2BMC systems help warfighters plan ballistic missile defense operations, forecast battle developments and simultaneously manage networked weapons and sensors.
