Spatial Integrated Systems will continue its program to develop a heterogeneous swarm of unmanned surface vehices in partnership with the Office of Naval Research.
The company said Monday it it aims to demonstrate small and very small USVs in the eight-unit swarm through the program.
SIS uses technology from NASA's Mars Rover to help the U.S. Navy address autonomy requirements.
The extended program builds on the service branch's previous USV swarm demonstrations that took place in 2014, 2016 and 2018. The program's first iteration demonstrated a swarm of five USVs.
"Autonomous systems are emerging as pivotal capabilities on, under and above the seas," said Carl Conti, technical director at SIS.
