Lockheed Martin has partnered with Israel-based Rafael Advanced Defense Systems to distribute the latter's guidance kits to U.S. defense customers.
The partnership would cover the 1K-pound and 2K-pound variants of Rafael's Smart, Precise Impact and Cost-Effective kits, or SPICE kits, Lockheed said Thursday.
SPICE kits are designed to provide autonomous precision for air-to-surface weapons deployed in environments with no global positioning system coverage.
"By applying our expertise in aircraft integration, mission planning and tailkit design, along with our experience in affordable streamlined production, we will adapt SPICE to meet U.S. standards," said John Varley, vice president at Lockheed's missiles and fire control business.
Rafael has more than 60 percent of SPICE products made in the U.S.
