Rick Lemaster, director of global sales and marketing at Boeing, said military customers must begin developing acquisition plans for the V-22 Osprey aircraft to mitigate production obstacles, Air Force Magazine reported Thursday.
Lemaster noted during a press tour at Boeing’s Philadelphia plant that service branches must issue orders for V-22 tiltrotor aircraft by the third quarter of 2020 to prevent future cost increases and production breaks.
He added that foreign military sales customers are advised to release acquisition plans by September 2020 as Boeing continues to produce V-22s through 2023.
The V-22 aircraft may help the services develop requirements for electronic warfare, sepcial operations, anti-submarine missions and other applications, according to Lemaster.
The U.S. Navy intends to deploy the V-22 helicopters until the 2040’s, he said.
