Federal Gov’t Needs Private Sector to Back Tech R&D Projects; GDIT’s Yogesh Khanna Quoted - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Industry and government executives said the federal government, which used to be a monolith when it comes to technology research and development, needs the support of the private sector in order to fund R&D work on new technologies amid tight budgets and other challenges, Federal Times reported Tuesday.

Yogesh Khanna, chief technology officer at General Dynamics Information Technology, noted that even large companies do not have extensive financial resources to back massive R&D programs.

“Gone are the days where large companies on their own would have a nontrivial budget to do R&D, and it was all to drive innovation,” Khanna said Tuesday during a media roundtable at the GDIT Emerge event.

The report said some small companies are partnering with larger firms to bring technology platforms to the federal government.
