Army, NSA Seek Computing Concepts for Quantum Algorithm Research Program

The U.S. Army and National Security Agency are looking for quantum computing concepts to support research into complex algorithms that span a range of computational areas.

A FedBizOpps notice posted Thursday stated that the Army Research Office and NSA aim to develop quantum algorithms that provide “constructive solutions” for specific tasks and focus on general methodologies that can help solve individual problems.

“A necessary component of this research will be to compare the efficiency of the quantum algorithm to the best existing classical algorithm for the same problem,” according to the notice.

Proposals should include a circuit model or other computational frameworks and tackle algorithmic challenges in various fields such as algebra, logic, geometry, number theory differential equations, simulation, analysis and optimization.

ARO and NSA encourage potential offerors to also cover complexity analysis for machines that run on noisy intermediate scale quantum computation.

Interested parties can submit responses through Aug. 1.
