Altavian has secured a contract to develop a less than five-pound unmanned aerial system as part of the U.S. Army's Short Range Reconnaissance Prototype development program.
The SRR contract represents the second small UAS project for the company in the past 13 months, Altavian said Thursday.
The Army aims to update its fleet of small drones built to operate in urban and short-range areas and works with the Defense Innovation Unit to accelerate the prototyping process.
Contract work is slated to run through 2020.
Gainesville, Fla.-based Altavian won a contract last year to provide UASÂ avionics, ground controllers, radios and spare parts to an undisclosed customer.
