Boeing, General Atomics and Lockheed Martin have received contract modifications to perform beam control critical design review in support of a Missile Defense Agency program to develop a laser system onboard an unmanned aerial vehicle.
The Department of Defense said Tuesday the modifications include laser scaling work under MDA’s Low Power Laser Demonstrator program.
Lockheed secured a potential $30M modification on a previously issued contract, while Boeing and General Atomics each received a potential $29M contract modification.
The contractors will perform work at their respective facilities in California and Alabama through Sept. 6 and MDA will obligate research, development, test and evaluation funds for fiscal 2019 at the time of award.
General Atomics, Lockheed and Boeing each received contracts from MDA in late 2017 to integrate and test a drone-based low-power laser technology under the first phase of the LPLD program.
