Lockheed Martin has landed a contract with two 18-month phased tasks to develop an airborne electronic warfare pod for the U.S. Army, C4ISRNET reported Monday.
The company will help the military service build a jamming technology through the Multi-Function Electronic Warfare Air Large program.
The Army plans to integrate the pod onto an MQ-1C Gray Eagle unmanned aircraft system for brigade commanders to execute electronic attack and electronic support missions.
Brandon Pollachek, a spokesperson for the Army’s Program Executive Office for Intelligence, Electronic Warfare and Sensors, said the MFEW pod design builds on Lockheed’s Silent Crow EW technology that has met the service branch’s requirements.
Pollachek added the company will aim to deliver and demonstrate one prototype during the effort’s first phase.
The project’s second phase is scheduled to commence in the first quarter of fiscal 2020.
