NTT Group to Help Expand Smart City Tech Adoption in Nevada; Jun Sawada Quoted

NTT Group has signed an agreement to help the state of Nevada and the city of Las Vegas adopt a distributed platform for urban modernization efforts.

Las Vegas will begin testing the company’s smart city offering in spring 2019 and consider implementing a full-scale service by summer 2019, NTT said Friday.

The platform is based on the Cognitive Foundation architecture that helps users remotely manage information and communications technology assets.

The offering also employs Dell EMC-built hyperconverged infrastructure and internet-of-things gateways and VMware-made virtualization software designed to host predictive analytics applications.

NTT fielded video cameras, IoT devices and sound sensors through a proof of concept that started in September and aimed to monitor a geographic area within the Las Vegas Innovation District.

Jun Sawada, president and CEO at NTT, said the company plans to expand the implementation of its connected technologies to other cities within the state and integrate platforms to increase public safety.

The agreement also covers a potential collaborative effort to establish a technology-equipped briefing center in downtown Las Vegas.
