An L3 Technologies subsidiary has received a contract to provide the U.S. Marine Corps with an unmanned underwater vehicle.
L3 OceanServer said Thursday it will supply its Iver3 UUV to help Marine Corps Systems Command carry out evaluation and testing operations.
Iver3 is a commercial-off-the-shelf autonomous underwater system that has a package of sensors including a side scan sonar, EdgeTech 2205B Bathymetry and iXBlue PHINS Compact inertial navigation system.
The vehicle is designed to support general surveys, research and environmental monitoring, subsurface security and sensor development work.
Daryl Slocum, general manager of L3 OceanServer, said the company has integrated feedback from the service branch to further develop its Iver3 and Iver4 UUVs built to support “nearshore and very shallow hydrographic surveys.â€
L3 OceanServer has supplied over 300 UUVs to military and commercial clients and runs under the maritime sensor systems sector of the parent company’s communications and networked systems business segment.
