Austal USA has secured a contract of an undisclosed value to construct two more Independence-variant littoral combat ships for the U.S. Navy.
The service did not disclose the contract amount for industry competition reasons and reported the price of the new orders was under a $584M cost cap set by Congress per LCS ship, the company said Sunday.
Constructing LCS 36 and 38 will represent the firm’s eighteenth and nineteenth vessels under the program.
To date, Austal USA has delivered nine vessels to the Navy and added that a further 10 units are either under production or awaiting construction.
The company also builds Expeditionary Fast Transport watercraft vehicles for the service.
