Unisys has introduced an apprenticeship program with the Labor Department and the Augusta Technical College in Georgia in a push to train military veterans and help them land jobs in the cybersecurity field.
The company said Monday it plans to train and hire workers for projects that support multiple U.S. state governments through the Cybersecurity Support Technician Apprenticeship program.
Unisys also seeks to expand its cyber workforce at the Augusta Security Operations Center.
Jonathan Goldberger, vice president and general manager at Unisys’ security solutions business, said the program is meant to help the Augusta community and military personnel who are transitioning to the private sector.
Augusta Tech President Terry Elam said the college will work with the company in efforts to address the region’s shortage of information technology professionals.
Unisys and Augusta Tech jointly held a public event Monday to discuss the program with representatives from the company, DOL and the Technical College System of Georgia.
