AM General has invested in Rock Island, Ill.-based artillery products and support services provider Mandus Group in a move accelerate the delivery of vehicle-mounted weapons systems to the U.S. Army.
AM General said Thursday it aims to expand its integrated mission systems portfolio and leverage manufacturing and technology platforms centered in the state’s Quad Cities region through the partnership with Mandus.
The collaboration builds upon the military ground vehicle manufacturer’s work with Rock Island Arsenal to provide High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle ambulances to the Army and its components.
Mandus’ soft recoil technology is designed to integrate with mobility platforms and the company also offers artillery logistics and repair services.
AM General noted its Humvee Hawkeye howitzer employs the technology intended to reduce the weight of stabilizing structures by up to 50 percent compared with traditional recoil systems.
