Northrop Explores New Platforms for Black Hawk Helicopter Avionics System - top government contractors - best government contracting event

Northrop Grumman is looking at other possible applications of an avionics system used on the U.S. Army’s UH-60V Black Hawk helicopter, Rotary & Wing International reported Tuesday.

The company designed its Integrated Avionics Suite with an open architecture intended to support future system adjustments without having to involve the original equipment manufacturer.

Robert Fleming, vice president of emerging systems and strategic initiatives at Northrop’s land and avionics C4ISR division, was quoted as saying the UH-60V’s cockpit architecture can potentially integrate with other rotocraft platforms.

Fleming cited the Army’s Future Vertical Lift program as one opportunity for the company to offer its avionics suite.

UH-60V has an updated cockpit that includes a human-machine interface similar to that of the UH-60M and will also incorporate Flite Pro Gen II Mission Computer.

Northrop has worked with the Army Prototype Integration Facility and Redstone Defense Systems to modernize the Army’s UH-60L helicopter fleet with new displays under a contract awarded in 2014.
