The Corpus Christi Army Depot has won an award in recognition of its energy and water conservation efforts with Siemens Government Technologies.
CCAD said Wednesday it received the 2018 Secretary of the Army Energy and Water Management Award at an Aug. 23 ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio.
Through the use of an Energy Savings Performance Contract, the depot saved more than 50M “energy units,” equivalent to more than $1.8M, between Oct. 2016 and Oct. 2017. It also managed to reduce its electricity usage by 40 percent and water usage by 49 percent.
Victor Lopez, director of infrastructure and risk management at CCAD, led the award-winning team consisting of engineers Roger Ceballos and Shawn Smith, division chief Scott Bryan and Siemens-based contractor Mark Krog.
Lopez said the resulting changes helped the depot augment its chiller plant and lighting; modify its monitoring control system; develop new water measures; and retro-commission heating, ventilation and air conditioning systems.
Siemens was awarded the contract in late 2016 to support the recognized project.
