Reginald Brothers, executive vice president and chief technology officer of Peraton, said during a Government Matters interview that aired Wednesday he expects Army Futures Command to adopt the Defense Innovation Unit Experimental’s rapid approach to technology development that includes testing and evaluation and prototyping.
Brothers said he thinks Austin, Texas, has a strong workforce, industry and research environment, making it a great location for the new command.
He noted that one of the major challenges the new command will face is integration.
“How do you take the entire [Defense Department] ecosystem, the industry, laboratories, academia, how do you put all of that together successfully?,†Brothers told Government Matters anchor Colby Hochmuth.
“I really hope to see is for [AFC] to reach out to the Austin community and the rest of the ecosystem, take these ideas and integrate them into really good programs and capabilities.”
Brothers, former undersecretary for science and technology at the Department of Homeland Security, also cited the potential impact of budget uncertainty on AFC’s research programs and the need for the command to implement a bottom-up design culture and user-producer innovation concept.
