CAE’s board of directors appointed former Canadian Deputy Prime Minister John Manley to succeed James Hankinson as chairman after the Montreal-based defense technology manufacturer held its annual shareholder meeting Tuesday.
Manley served as the independent director of the company over the past decade and is currently the president and CEO of the Business Council of Canada, CAE said Tuesday.
He was first elected to the Canadian parliament in 1988 and won re-elections thrice prior to serving as the country’s minister for industry, foreign affairs and finance from 1993 to 2003.
Retired U.S. Air Force Gen. Norton Schwartz, currently president and CEO of Business Executives for U.S. National Security, will serve as independent director of CAE’s board.
Schwarz previously served on the board of the company’s U.S. subsidiary. He was the USAF chief of staff from 2008 to 2012.
