Lockheed Martin will participate in a Dynetics-led consortium that has received a $10 million contract to further develop a weapon system as part of the U.S. Army‘s High Energy Laser Tactical Vehicle Demonstrator program.
Team Dynetics proposed a HEL TVD system that will employ subsystems designed to function in rugged operational environments, Lockheed said Monday.
The industry team, which recently completed a system requirements review and a technical baseline update, is among the two remaining bidders for a contract to build the demonstrator slated for testing in 2022.
The program is scheduled to enter the preliminary design review phase in January.
Lockheed noted it will provide a spectral beam-combined fiber laser component that will build on the company’s previous ground vehicle integration experience under the Army’s Robust Electric Laser Initiative.
The Army will select and award one team a contract option to produce, integrate and test a 100-kilowatt laser weapon onto the Family of Medium Tactical Vehicles.
