Lockheed Martin has reached its goal of hiring 1,800 workers to support the F-35 program, which has completed 310 aircraft deliveries to date.
Marillyn Hewson, Lockheed CEO and a four-time Wash100 awardee, said in a statement released Monday the company will continue to hire more employees as it aims to accelerate the pace of F-35 production work.
The program has helped create 194,000 direct and indirect jobs nationwide.
Lockheed noted it expects to hire an additional 400 workers such as avionics technicians, milling machinists and low observable coaters at a company facility in Fort Worth, Texas, through a recruitment event on July 30.
The Bethesda, Md.-based aerospace and defense contractor announced its hiring event during President Donald Trump’s “Made in America” day held July 17, which featured U.S.-built offerings for manufacturing, construction, agriculture, mining and entrepreneurship.
Lockheed aims to deliver 91 F-35s by the end of this year and ramp up production capacity year-over-year to eventually put out 160 jets annually by 2023.
