South Korea’s defense acquisition program administration plans to recompete a potential $155 million project to supply the South Korean army and navy with a total of 41 training helicopters, Defense News reported Friday.
It was stated that the reason for the recompete was ‘price issues’.
Both Bell’s (formerly Bell Helicopter) 505 Jet Ranger and the Leonardo SW-4 aircraft are competing to replace South Korea’s MD 500, 30-year-old fleet.
The TH-X program was initially released for competition from the Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) in November 2015.
Kang Hwan-seok, a spokesman of South Korea’s defense procurement agency, told the publication a request for proposals will be re-issued in between June and July.
