Amazon Web Services kicked off its two-day Public Sector Summit on June 20 in Washington, D.C., and Teresa Carlson, vice president of AWS worldwide public sector, welcomed approximately 9,000 attendees to the event.
One of the highlights of the summit is the launch of a cloud computing degree by Northern Virginia Community College in partnership with AWS’ Educate program, the company said Wednesday.
NOVA will offer the two-year cloud computing specialization as part of its information systems technology associate of applied science degree by fall 2018.
VMware and AWS also launched a hybrid cloud service – VMware Cloud on AWS GovCloud (US) – designed to help government agencies accelerate migration of applications to the cloud and securely manage workloads through a common infrastructure.
Tom Soderstrom, IT chief technology and innovation officer at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory, delivered a keynote address at the event and discussed how the agency will leverage cloud computing to process and store data related to Mars and other space exploration missions.
