Lockheed Martin will deliver energy storage systems for installation in Ontario, Canada and along the U.S.’ east coast to provide reduced electricity costs for Peak Power‘s customers.
Lockheed said Thursday its energy business will supply units of GridStar Lithium storage systems with a total capacity of around 17-megawatt hours for integration with Peak Power’s Synergy software to minimize peak demand on the grid.
GridStar Lithium is designed as a compact turnkey energy storage platform certified for the Underwriters Laboratories‘ 9540 standard and features a modular system architecture, purpose-built batteries, local controls software and all required balance-of-system components.
The storage system is geared to provide scalable capacities from 100Â kilowatts for multi-megawatt projects.
Peak Power’s Synergy software is intended to predict expensive peak demand events and shift to a different source for power consumption.
Lockheed has provided and will deliver power storage products to support projects for applications that include peak load reduction for the electrical grid and repository for renewable energy.
The Bethesda, Md.-based company currently develops its GridStar Flow product that will be built with the company’s proprietary flow battery technology in aims to provide flexible, durable, long-duration energy storage for utility-grade operations.
Peak Power is an energy storage services provider for North America that has been funded by the federal and provincial governments, MaRS’ technology incubator and Osmington, the investment office of Thomson Reuters chairman David Thomson.
