Metabolon will provide metabolomic profiling services to help the Department of Veterans Affairs identify health biological markers of military retirees through the company’s partnership with AKESOgen.
The profiles will be used to build a database of genetic, military and environmental exposure, lifestyle and health information of retired service members for the department’s Million Veteran Program, Metabolon said Thursday.
“The MVP intends to leverage a tremendous amount of multi-omics data with the goal of identifying innovative ways to prevent and treat illnesses in our nation’s veterans,” said Michael Gaziano, a principal investigator of the program.
Metabolon will provide its Precision Metabolomics technology for large-scale analysis and metabolomic profiling of biological samples from veterans under a contract with the department.
Precision Metabolomics is designed to measure and map metabolite levels in aims to determine the effects of genetics, microbiome, diet, lifestyle and drug treatment on health.
AKESOgen currently provides genotyping services for the MVP and has processed over 300,000 samples for the VA since 2014.
The companies’ strategic partnership will allow Metabolon to offer its metabolomics services to AKESOgen’s clients.
