The Energy Department plans to extend a contract with a joint venture of AECOM and SNC-Lavalin‘s Atkins business unit to manage, treat and dispose nuclear waste at the department’s Hanford site.
The DOE said Thursday in a FedBizOpps notice that it intends to award a one-year contract extension to Washington River Protection Solutions, with work slated to occur from Oct. 1, 2018 through Sept. 30, 2019.
WPRS’ initial 10-year, $7.1 billion tank farm contract with DOE will expire in six months.
Under the extension, WPRS will continue to help DOE store, retrieve and treat Hanford tank waste; store and dispose of treated waste; and close the tank farm waste management areas to preserve the Columbia River.
The department plans to award five new contracts for work on the Hanford site and include current contractors in the new agreements, Tri-City Herald reported Tuesday.
The proposed contracts will include a new tank farm contract that will contain a five-year base period and options to extend work as long as 10 years.
The DOE also seeks to award separate contracts for site-wide services, occupational medicine services and laboratory testing and analysis support.
