Lockheed Martin and Cypress Creek Renewables will provide solar energy and battery storage systems for the Burnswick Electric Membership Corporation in the southeastern part of Northern Carolina.
Lockheed said Monday it will supply its GridStar Lithium energy storage systems for the 12 solar-plus-storage projects Cypress Creek developed, constructed, financed and commissioned for Brunswick EMC.
The projects’ energy storage system will have a total capacity of up to 12 megawatt hour.
United Renewable Energy managed the project prior to the transfer to Cypress Creek.
The solar-plus-storage projects are intended to allow Burnswick EMC to avoid peaking costs and provide savings for its service areas that include the counties of Bladen, Burnswick, Columbus and Robeson.
GridStar Lithium is built with modular, energy storage units to allow customization to scale 100 kilowatt to multi-megawatt projects.
The energy storage system has been certified for the Underwriters Laboratories‘ 9540 standard.
