Saab has unveiled a new airborne surveillance platform the company built for United Arab Emirates as part of an aircraft development and production contract awarded in 2015.
The company said Friday its GlobalEye Airborne Early Warning & Control aircraft is derived from Bombardier‘s Global 6000 model and equipped with an extended-range Erieye radar technology.
GlobalEye is designed to support border surveillance, search-and-rescue and military operations.
Saab noted it will conduct ground and flight tests of the inaugural AEW&C aircraft in an effort to generate aerodynamic data.
UAE placed an order for two GlobeEye units during a Dubai Air Show that took place in November 2015 and ordered an additional aircraft last year.
