Lockheed Martin has unveiled a new software platform designed to help operators manage various unmanned aircraft vehicles simultaneously during intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance missions.
VCSi is engineered to support operation of multiple dissimilar vehicles at once and modular customization based on mission requirements, the company said Tuesday.
John Molberg, manager of business development at Lockheed’s CDL systems unit, said the software can be adapted to different vehicles such as quadcopters, boats, fixed-wing aircraft or high-altitude pseudo satellites intended for military or commercial use.
The company designed VCSi to comply with NATO’s standardization agreement for unmanned vehicle interoperability.
Lockheed noted that the software’s interface works to generate three-dimensional imagery of vehicles and airspace surrounding an unmanned system.
VCSi builds on the company’s five decades of experience in developing unmanned systems.
