The World Economic Forum has introduced a program that seeks to address a global skills gap and job displacement challenge in the information technology sector.
PwC said Tuesday the IT Industry Skills Initiative seeks to train and provide resources for 1 million people via the SkillSET portal by January 2021.
The portal will offer a PwC-developed skills assessment tool built to help users discover appropriate coursework and learning pathways that match their specific skillsets and learning goals.
The Forum’s information technology governors community, which includes Accenture, CA Technologies, Cisco, Cognizant, Hewlett Packard Enterprise, Infosys, Pegasystems, PwC, Salesforce, SAP and Tata Consultancy Services, formulated the program to offer competitive training content in a singular platform.
“This initiative brings together the capabilities and strengths of all of our companies to help educate the high-skilled workers needed for jobs now and into the future,” said Chuck Robbins, chairman and CEO of Cisco.
“It is our obligation to make sure that people with jobs across every industry are given the means to learn new skills and remain competitive.”
Alliance members will also provide access to online tools and elements of individual training libraries on a centralized portal free of charge for professionals that want to learn about topics such as big data, cybersecurity and the Internet of Things.
