Paul Smith, senior vice president and general manager of Red Hat’s public sector, told attendees of the company’s annual Government Symposium that he believes open-source technology “is the best source for choice and security.â€
Smith cited the Kubernetes project to discuss the role of open source in efforts to address information technology challenges within the government, according to a Red Hat article published Thursday on Federal News Radio.
Kubernetes is an open-source platform that works to automate the management and deployment of containerized applications and a component of the company’s container application – OpenShift Container Platform.
Other themes discussed at the symposium include the implementation of DevOps and agile methods to carry out government IT programs and the use of OpenControl and other open source capabilities to streamline security and compliance processes within the government.
The OpenControl project is a collaboration between industry, the General Services Administration’s 18F organization and other agencies to speed up compliance through standardization of security controls documentation.
