Materion has received a contract to supply AlBeMet metal matrix composite parts that will be used as components for UTC Aerospace Systems‘ MS-177 multi-spectral imaging sensor.
The MS-177 is being evaluated for use on Northrop Grumman‘s RQ-4B Global Hawk unmanned aerial vehicle, Materion said Thursday.
Made of aluminum and beryllium, AlBeMet is a composite metal made to have high modulus and low-density qualities, while being easily fabricated and used as a mechanical component.
The MS-177 is being developed as a long-range sensor for use on the Global Hawk system that is designed to capture surface images at day and night conditions for intelligence and surveillance purposes.
