The Welsh government has received a Jacobs Engineering Group-built virtual reality visualization environment which will be used to aid construction work on two sections of the South Wales-based A465 Heads of Valley highway project.
Jacobs said Wednesday the VR platform adds to the company’s support for the A465 project which also includes road widening assistance and the creation of six junctions.
The company noted the VR environment will help stakeholders visualize the project’s concept and understand its effects on the environment, people and property.
“This project aims to facilitate the economic regeneration of the Heads of Valleys area, reducing journey times, improving reliability and enhancing road safety,” said Matt Enoch, Welsh Government project director.
“The use of 3D modelling tools and visualization techniques as part of the design enables the client to obtain a much better understanding of the project and detect any potential risks,” said Donald Morrison, senior vice president and general manager at Jacobs Buildings and Infrastructure Europe.
The VR environment spans across 114 square miles of accurate terrain, includes approximately 5,000 modeled building structure and can be navigated via helicopter fly-over, simulated car journey, viewing points of interest and free-roam modes.
