Bill Phelps, former director of worldwide media relations at Lockheed Martin, has been appointed vice president for external communications of the company.
Lockheed said Wednesday it also named Adam Sohn, former director of strategic communications at Amazon‘s devices and services business, as VP of space communications.
Phelps will succeed Nettie Johnson, who will retire from by the end of January, and will oversee marketing, media relations, social media and visual communications functions in his new position.
He previously served as a director of corporate communications for Altria, account supervisor at Siddall and television news producer at an NBC affiliate in Richmond, Virginia.
Sohn will replace Andrea Greenan, who will transition to a new role as VP of internal communications, and will manage community relations, employee engagemeng, marketing, media relations and social media activities at Lockheed’s space business segment.
He previously held communications leadership positions at Microsoft, where he helped launch and sustain products such the Bing search engine and the Windows operating system.
