The Air Mobility Command and Amazon Web Services have collaborated to simulate events of an organization’s transition to cloud infrastructure in a move to help AMC leaders prepare for non-technical issues that may arise during the initial years of cloud migration.
The U.S. Air Force said Tuesday the experiential activity occurred Jan. 8 at Scott AF Base in Illinois and provided officials an opportunity to work with a provider that could offer lessons learned from previous cloud migration efforts.
USAF noted the event introduced various perspectives on the potential effects of cloud migration on missions and various functional areas.
“The purpose of this event was to bring together Airmen and leaders from across the AMC staff and take them through key decision points organizations will experience during the first two years of a cloud migration,” said Lt. Col. Ivan Herwick, an AMC representative at the Transportation Command’s Cloud Center of Excellence.
“Using a case study as a baseline, participants discussed issues and milestones an organization would face, and how best to manage the enterprise migration.”
AMC aims to complete implementation of cloud-based services this spring.
