The American National Standards Institute seeks participants for a recently launched collaborative effort that will support the integration of unmanned aircraft systems into the U.S. national airspace system.
ANSI said Monday the Unmanned Aircraft Systems Standardization Collaborative aims to coordinate and advance the creation of UAS integration standards and compliance assessment programs as well as foster international adaptability.
UASSC seeks to create a standardization road map within a year to determine gaps between existing and future standards and related compliance programs and provide recommendations on additional work needed, the timeline for completion and potential organizations to carry out the work.
UAS stakeholders that operate in the U.S. may submit applications to join the program through Dec. 30.
Interested individuals may participate in one or more of the four UASSC working groups, which will each hold online meetings twice a month beginning January 2018.
UASSC held its first meeting on Sept. 28 in Washington, D.C., where attendees from industry, government and other organizations identified credentialing, airworthiness, operations/procedures and airspace/infrastructure as the four areas to explore.
The collaborative is co-chaired by Earl Lawrence, UAS integration director at the Federal Aviation Administration, and Brian Wynne, president and CEO of the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International.
