The U.S. Navy has awarded Rockwell Collins a $34.5 million initial contract to provide a fourth tactics trainer for the military branch’s E-2D Hawkeye Integrated Training Systems III program.
Rockwell Collins said Monday it aims to complete production of a new E-2D tactics trainer designed to support live, virtual and constructive training high-fidelity training by August 2020.
Nick Gibbs, vice president and general manager of Rockwell Collins’ simulation and training solutions unit, the company aims to equip the Navy with tools needed train and prepare the service branch’s personnel for E-2D flight missions.
The Navy will install the new system at Naval Base Ventura County in Point Mugu, California.
Rockwell Collins noted it also built the other Navy E-2D trainers currently in service for approximately $85.9 million.
