Huntington Ingalls Industries‘ shipbuilding division has delivered the DDG 114 Ralph Johnson to the U.S. Navy.
The company said Wednesday shipbuilders and Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast representatives were present during the delivery of the Ralph Johnson.
The DD 250 document was signed by Cmdr. Jason Patterson, prospective commanding officer for the DDG 114; Cmdr. Scott Williams, program manager representative of Supervisor of Shipbuilding Gulf Coast; and Freddie Joe O’Brien, DDG 114 ship program manager at Ingalls.
The signing of the document signifies the transfer of the ship to the Navy.
DDG 114 Ralph Johnson is set to sail in February and be commissioned March 24, 2018, in Charleston, South Carolina.
The ship is named after Medal of Honor awardee Pfc. Ralph Henry Johnson whose sacrificial efforts supported the Navy during the events of the Vietnam War.
The Ralph Johnson is the 30th Arleigh Burke-class guided missile destroyer delivered by Huntington Ingalls.
As part of the Arleigh Burke-class, the DDG 114 is a multi-mission ship designed for a wide variety of operations.
The ship is equipped with myriad offensive and defensive weaponry for air, surface and subsurface battles.
